PVMS Student Behavior Code and General School Rules
Students are responsible for conducting themselves properly in a responsible manner appropriate to their age and level of maturity. The district has authority over students during the regular school day and while going to and from school on district transportation. This jurisdiction included any school-related activity, regardless of time or location, and any off campus school-related misconduct, regardless of time or location.
Student responsibilities for achieving a positive learning environment in school or school related activities include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Attending all classes, regularly and on time
2. Being prepared
for each class with appropriate materials and assignments
3. Being dressed appropriately
4. Showing respect toward others, including students and staff members
5. Behaving in a responsible manner
6. Obeying all school rules, including safety rules and rules pertaining to internet safety
7. Being respectful of school property
8. Abiding by the rules of the playground
9. Walking in the corridors, behaving in a manner so as to not disturb other classes
10. Refraining from chewing gum on school grounds or on buses
11. Obeying general safety rules on buses
The following is a list of behaviors that are expressly forbidden at school:
- Carrying of toys to school except for a specific instructional use and with permission of the teacher or principal
- Fighting or improper physical contact with other students
- Making threats against students or staff
- Exhibiting a disruptive attitude or conduct on school grounds
- Using obscene language or gestures
- Showing disrespect toward any individual or toward a person's racial/ethnic/familial background
- Refusing to obey directives from staff or school rules (insubordination)
- Entering or leaving an assigned area without permission
- Vandalizing the school or another student's property
- Smoking
- Using alcohol or drugs
- Exhibiting sexual harassment
- Bringing pets to school without permission from the teacher and school principal
PVMS SCHOOL RULES
- Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
- Follow the directions of the adult the first time they are given
- Be kind and courteous to one another
CAFETERIA RULES
(in addition to the above school rules)
- Stay in your personal space
- Use an inside voice
PLAYGROUND RULES
(in addition to the above school rules)
- Follow playground safety rules
- Stay within the area designated by the adults on the playground
- If there is snow on the ground, you must have snow pants and boots to play in it, otherwise you must stay on the blacktop areas only.
- Hardballs, softballs, wood and metal bats, etc. Are not allowed for playground use since they are dangerous when a large number of students are playing a variety of games and activities. Please do not bring these items to school.
Please note the following:
- Children wishing to play on the playscapes or participate in running games must have closed heel and toe footwear.
- Sharp instruments (toy or real) such as jackknives, swords, Swiss Army knives, etc. are not allowed in school (this includes the bus). No firearms or firearm supplies, real or toy, are permitted in school.
- Gum is not permitted on school property, without special permission (again, this includes the bus). Candy may be brought to school in conjuction with planned classroom parties.
Radios, walkmen, electronic games or toys or other expensive items should not be brought into school unless requested by a teacher as part of a unit of study. If a student has these items for use outside of school, they must be kept in the child’s backpack.
SCHOOL BUS RULES
- Follow the directions of the bus drivers or other adults in authority on the bus.
- Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
- Hand held radios with earphones are permitted; however, other audio equipment is not allowed.
- Eating, drinking, and gum chewing are not permitted on the bus.
- Observe state and federal motor vehicle laws (Sec. 14-175)
- The following is prohibited:
- Fighting and/or causing injury to others.
- Smoking or use of alcohol or drugs on the bus.
- The discharge of matches, fireworks, smoke bombs, etc.
- Opening, entering, or exiting by the emergency door, except in an emergency.
- Acts of vandalism.
